I AM A racist.
I had no idea up until this morning, when I was.informed that my racism has manifested itself in a particularly ugly act of race-oriented bigotry and vindictiveness: I have not made a financial contribution to Diane Abbott’s leadership campaign.
I know! I can barely write about it, I am so ashamed.
It gets worse: I actually couldn’t care less that Diane’s campaign is funds-starved. I really couldn’t. It just doesn’t take up much thinking time.
And even worse – and I might as well sign up to the BNP right now – even though I have already stated that I wouldn’t bother using my second, third or subsequent preference votes in the leadership election, if I had chosen to use them all… (*deep breaths*)… I would have given Diane my fifth preference vote. Because any of the other candidates would make a preferable leader to her. There – I’ve said it.
Now, in my defence, that is a position based exclusiely on political considerations. It’s a conclusion that many, many members of the Labour Party – both rank and file as well as MPs – will have come to by now.
And we’re all racists. Yup. Every one of us.
You know how I know that? Because Sir Ian Blair says so. In his article for The New Statesman, headlined “Racism is alive and kicking”, he says:
How, for instance, can Labour Party members not be outraged about the lack of donations to Diane Abbott’s leadership campaign?
And I have to be honest: I’m not outraged at all.
So my being racist is the only sensible conclusion to reach, isn’t it? Either that, or Sir Ian is talking out of his backside.
Hat-tip to Working Class Tory.
