CAROLINE Lucas, the Green MP, has announced she will be tabling an amendment to the AV Referendum Bill to allow more “PR” options to the question.
Next Left, inevitably, is calling on Labour to support Lucas’s, or a similar, motion. Fat chance.
What’s fascinating , however, is that, since full proportional representation is not part of the Sacred and Holy Coalition Agreement, LibDem MPs may themselves be whipped against it, even though full PR is a mandatory commitment in every LibDem manifesto (not that that matters any more, apparently, because we have a coalition).
Watching Clegg and co. walk through the lobbies against an amendment that would put PR on the ballot paper really would be entertaining. Are we allowed popcorn in the chamber, I wonder?
