ERIC Pickles was dead right: public sector bodies shouldn’t be spending money on lobbying.

Why, I’ve heard that some of them actually use tax-payers’ money to sponsor events at political party conferences! I know! Wait until Eric fnds out, he’ll be livid. Fortunately, they don’t give any money to the Conservative Party conference – that would be really embarrassing for Eric. I mean, ridiculous though the possibility sounds, if that did happen, he would have to face charges of hypocrisy. And although many things, Eric Pickles is no hypocrite.

Pardon? What’s that you say? Tory-controlled Westminster City Council is sponsoring the Tory Party conference this year? No, that can’t be right – you must be mistaken. Surely…?

I guess all we have to do now is wait for the TaxPayers’ Alliance to condemn this abuse of public money. Yep, any minute now, they’ll put out a statement… Any minute now… Yessirree, they won’t stand for this… (whistles…)
