I agree with Ed - Tom Harris MP

I’VE TRIED to avoid commenting on the various initiatives suggested by the different leadership candidates, but I have to agree with Ed Miliband’s recent comments on Nick Clegg.

Clegg’s sacking of Gordon Brown after the general election was offensive on two levels: first, who the hell does the leader of a minority party – with a fraction of the support Labour got, even in a bad year – think he is by insisting that the leader of my party has to resign as a condition of a possible coalition deal? Especially when Clegg never had any intention of compromising his right wing principles by working with Labour in the first place. The Labour Party must have the exclusive right to appoint and sack our leaders.

Secondly, it was a tad discouraging that calls on GB to quit by numerous Labour colleagues (including me) before the election – when it could still have made a difference to our electoral fortunes – were resisted, only to be acceded to when the call came from one of our political enemies.

I cannot imagine any future scenario in which Labour ministers could sit round a Cabinet table with Nick Clegg, and Ed’s right for saying what many of us are thinking.
