LOOK, I’m really sorry to have to write yet another anti-Clegg post, but how could I resist this?
No-one ever believed that the Liberals changed their minds about the need for immediate swingeing cuts having seen “the books” in the Treasury after the election. And to be fair, they didn’t expect us to believe them. They just needed to be seen to have a plausible excuse for propping up Clegg’s preferred choice of coalition partner. Fair enough.
Now Clegg’s claiming that he didn’t even need convincing about the need for immediate cuts – he changed his mind before seeing “the books”. Why didn’t he tell the electorate that before polling day?
… to be fair we were all … reacting to very, very fast-moving economic events.
Great answer – erudite, convincing, believable. He probably wouldn’t even have able to get in touch with any journalists during the election anyway…
This is indefensible, whatever the trolls will now say. The New Politics: transparent, open and honest. My a**e.
