Secret laughter
'Why are you laughing?' Two reporters asked me. One last Saturday another today. It's the story of a Russian Spy plot that is so amusing and incredible.
It's tale that suggests the Russians had great foresight in seeking to recruit a spy in the LibDem Party about three years ago. Why? It's a hundred years since the Liberals had a sniff of power. Did they know that the Coalition was coming? If they are that clever they would not need spies.
The prospect of my mate Mike as a spy doing the bidding of Putin is wildly ludicrous. He is his own man. No-one tells him what to think and how to vote. I believe he is the only LibDem to vote on a major issue against the Coalition.
His views are sound on all social issues and he has built up a great deal of respect in Europe for his political gifts. I do not understand his opposition to Georgia. But does not like Sakashvili who was a past member of the Council of Europe and was probably groomed for leadership by the CIA during his years in the USA. Still that's no reason for siding with Russia. Again I am biased because Newport is twinned with a city in Georgia.
I do not begin to believe a word of this story. Of course it is only a few hours after the silly season of August.
Sabotage
Blair's revelation that will be cursed by Labour party members is that he sabotaged the Hunting Act.
He says he insisted on loopholes to allow hunting to continue, told Home Office Minister Hazel Blears to get the police to avoid prosecutions and bet Prince Charles that the hunting would not stop. He was persuaded by a hunting woman he met in Tuscany. Pity he never listened to Labour party members. On that or the Iraq war. Now he agian hoping to manipulate public opinion.
Contemptible.
