It could be you - Andy Love MP
Almost every month the Big Lottery Fund emails me to let me know if any organisations in Edmonton have been successful in receiving funding to help with community projects. Our area does pretty well out of it actually and it's always nice to see well-deserving groups get funding to fulfill a role that would not otherwise be done.

This time around, two Edmonton organisations were allocated funding. One of which, the Shane Project, I have supported since it first began so I was particularly pleased to learn that it has been given a massive £141,143. The Shane Project supports people living with MS, particularly in the African Caribbean and minority ethnic communities. This money will mean that it can expand to include a counselling service and workshops as well as make improvements to the website and helpline.

The second group to receive funding - £9,960 - was the Enfield People's Project. The group provides much-needed support to those affected by HIV and AIDS. They too plan to develop a workshop programme with the money and offer peer support groups so that people suffering from HIV/AIDS will be able to discuss the issues affecting them and to offer advice to others in return. I look forward to seeing the projects grow.

Both of these groups do a vital job of helping people in Edmonton and Enfield feel less isolated. Often when I visit local groups like these I wonder, who would do the job and help the people who benefit from their services if they weren't there? I am immensely grateful to the people, often volunteers, who care and who give up their time to help others when they recognise there is a need. I am also grateful that the Labour Government founded the Big Lottery Fund back in 2006 so money could be channelled into making a difference in local communities, just like Edmonton.
