Did you see this morning's publication of the country's unemployment figures? There was a fall. This just proves that the action the Labour Government took to reduce unemployment was working.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: now is absolutely the worst time to withdraw support for the economy and jobseekers. If the Tory/LibDem coalition government abandons people to unemployment they will simply risk the country's economic recovery and this will cost us far more in the long run. The huge cuts in spending that we are facing now, combined with comparatively weak growth in private sector jobs, will inevitably reflect badly on unemployment figures a matter of months down the line.
Even Governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, today said that the country's economic recovery would be "choppy," alluding to the dreaded double-dip recession. Remember that there is a delay from implementation to impact. One positive month's unemployment figures does not mean that the Tory/LibDem cuts will not hit the country hard. We are far from being in the clear economically speaking.
